Fir Trees in a Snow Storm
2024 | oil on oil paper mounted on panel | 5×7 inches
I was on a painting trip in Jackson, New Hampshire, in the White Mountains, and found myself snowed in on the first day. Looking out the front door, I decided to go no further that day and simply paint these two trees as the snow fell on them. I love the look of newly fallen snow on evergreen trees, and in the White Mountains the snow will often take days to melt off the trees, which allows the landscape to have a magical, Narnia-esque tone of subtle greens and purples.
