During a two-week solo painting and camping trip to Acadia in 2023, I went up to the top of Cadillac Mountain almost every evening. The first evening I had some great conversations with some of the other visitors, and realized afterwards that I had gotten very little painting done. The subsequent evening I followed a side-trail partway down the mountain, and discovered a clearing with a beautiful view which, as I came back to it every evening for the rest of the trip, I had all to myself. This moody, mostly overcast sunset was one of the first pictures that came out of my discovery of that spot.
